Seller Galerie Libre Est L'Art
Harouna Andre Guillabert Gacko is a contemporary French sculptor. With unwavering confidence and dexterity, Gacko breathes life into his sculptures, crafting a diverse array of subjects that range from animals like dragons, horses, lions, birds of prey, dogs, and bulls, to characters such as Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, Arthur Rimbaud, matadors, picadors, circus artists, Greek mythological heroes, Senegalese wrestlers, Maasai warriors, and even Santa Claus.
Gacko's sculptures are characterized by meticulous attention to detail, capturing the essence of protruding muscles, eyes, hair, flowing manes, hooves, dewclaws, hooked claws, and various other elements. The sculptures are dynamic and perpetually in motion, bringing each creation to life and animating the artist's narrative figuration. Despite being self-taught, Gacko's work is a testament to his profound understanding and consideration of the human form.
Using materials such as school notebook paper, white paper, and aluminum foil, Gacko engages in a unique artistic process. He crumples, crushes, and molds the material until it takes the desired shape, resulting in sculptures ranging from 10 centimeters to an impressive 2 meters in height. The paper used, of a specific weight, is manipulated in a wild and non-conformist manner, solidified with resin to ensure durability over time.
Gacko's artistic journey traces back to his early years at the Dakar kindergarten, where, at the age of 6, he first experienced sculpting with modeling clay, resin, wire, and clay to replicate animals. Guided by his fascination with television shows and a desire to transform everyday materials, Gacko found his preferred medium in paper, turning it into a poetic and dynamic form of artistic expression.
Beyond his unique approach to paper sculpture, Gacko has gained recognition for his exhibitions, showcasing his works on various themes at numerous locations and international contemporary art fairs. Notably, his GackoArt Pooh series, characterized by minimalistic and refined forms, further demonstrates his creative range. Symbolizing escape, freedom, and life, the GackoArt Bear from this collection evolves in different materials such as resin and fiberglass, available in sizes ranging from 22 centimeters to an impressive 1.8 meters.
