This painting is about hope and change. The strings of rain are the threads that bind heaven and earth together for a little while. The power of rain is the power of change. The girl stands in a ray of hope. She reaches out one hand towards the viewer, and she gently holds with the other hand the strings of rain. At any moment, though, those strings of rain could become lightning bolts.
Change, like rain, is brought by the wind. The symbol of rain, the beautiful “Zephyr lily” (zephyranthes) peeks out of the girl’s pocket.
