My friends asked me recently why I´ve changed to make predominantly sad and less beautiful sculptures in the traditional sense. I´ve found the answer whilst working on this sculpture. It´s simple: I just feel this way. Maybe I just didn´t notice how the lockdown slowly changed me and how the sadness slowly crept up on me. My state of being can be described in three words: "A shot pilot". I know for sure that one day I´m gonna fly again.
The story of Icarus is one of those legends of Greek mythology that fascinates audiences especially because of the character’s desire to go beyond human boundaries as well as for the tragic consequences this brought about.
The myth of Daedalus and Icarus tells the story of a father and a son who used wings to escape from the island of Crete. Icarus has become better-known as the flyer who fell from the sky when the wax that ed his wings was melted by the heat of the sun.

Elena Kraft is a contemporary German painter and sculptor whose artistic journey was shaped by her lifelong ion for dance. From a young age, she immersed herself in the world of dance, progressing from a ionate dancer to a dance teacher, choreographer, and ultimately the proud director of the K-System dance school. Her extensive experience in dance has deeply influenced her artistic expression, inspiring her work with movements, body language, and body control.
At the age of 45, Kraft discovered a new ion for art, which she pursued alongside her dance career. Drawing from her background in dance, she naturally gravitated towards figurative art, with a focus on depicting the complexities and delicacies of the human body. Initially working with charcoal and pastel, Kraft now primarily uses acrylic, oil, resin, and clay in her paintings and sculptures. She enjoys experimenting with texture and various techniques, striving to imbue her works with a sense of liveliness and expression.
In her later works, Kraft explores the expression of her emotions through a spray technique, adding an expressionistic nuance to the backgrounds of her figurative paintings and sculptures. Through her art, Kraft seeks to capture the dynamic energy and emotional depth of the human form, creating works that resonate with vitality and emotion.
