“As a fledgling, Stevie was brought sick to the Wild Bird Fund in Manhattan where she grew to adulthood and became quite tame. She injured her left leg at the clinic during out of cage time, and would have been euthanized if it weren't for comionate staff who amputated her left leg so she could live. This happened at the start of 2020. Stevie was recovering at a foster home while I was looking for an apartment. It was my first time living without roommates, which allowed me to adopt her. I'd been wanting to adopt a bird for years, after having to rehome my childhood birds when I left for college at 17. I named her after singer Stevie Nicks. She is a strong-willed, curious, loving soul. She mate-bonded to me quickly since we were essentially the only living creatures we saw for the first few months of quarantine. When I returned to work, I adopted Cher and Bruce so she would have company while I was out of the house, but she remains my "ride or die". I struggle with chronic illness and she is always by my side at my worst moments. When she is not sitting on the nest she loves to cuddle with me, keep me company, taste all the foods I'm eating, and hop around the apartment foraging for seeds or whatever else she finds. She even prefers to sleep in my room, sometimes on my bed, and have snuggles in the morning when we wake up. For a bird who has been through so much her capacity for trust and love amaze me every day. I'm so grateful for her.”

Stevie currently lives in NYC with her human parent Sidney.
