Pigeon racing is not a sport.
It’s animal cruelty dressed in trophies and tradition.
Racing pigeons are torn from their families to be used as pawns in a system that thrives on stress, fear, and loss. Their deep bonds are exploited, they’re made to race home from long, exhausting distances, chasing a reunion that may never come.
Many never return.
Those who do are often discarded if they don’t win,
sold for dog training, left to starve, or killed by a snap of the neck.
Each “lost” bird is a slave to the racing system.
Do NOT call the number on their band. Instead, a local pigeon friendly rescue or pigeon friendly rehabber. You can also receive guidance from organizations such as Palomacy or GLPR.
You’re not returning a pet — you’re sending them back to a life of high stress, suffering and trauma. Exhaustion, bad weather, and injury from collisions with fencing and other structures during training and racing can interfere with the birds’ navigation ability and their safe return home. This can force birds to feral flocks where they have no survival skills, having been raised with complete dependence on humans.
When birds are injured, they are usually killed rather than brought to a veterinarian for treatment. Finally, fanciers may use performance-enhancing drugs that can impair pigeons’ immune systems and ability to regenerate feathers.
Pigeons are not machines to serve human greed.
They are loyal, sensitive beings who deserve peace, not forced endurance, not cruelty disguised as tradition.
Break the silence.
Ban pigeon racing.

Elodie M. Richard was born in but with a complex heritage including Polish and Russian. Due to her father’s career in the Army her family had to regularly move and adapt to new locations in and abroad.
