Daniele Fissore (1947-2017) was born in Savigliano, located in the province of Cuneo, Italy. After completing his classical studies, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin in 1968. Following his formal education, he pursued his artistic research independently, focusing on mastering various drawing techniques.
In 1972, Fissore began to develop a range of pictorial themes that would become significant throughout his career. His early works included series titled "Telephone Booths," "Oppositions," "Recognitions," and "Simulations." His participation in notable exhibitions began with the X Quadriennale d'arte di Roma in 1975, which highlighted "La nuova generazione," followed by the "Biennale del disegno" in Milan in 1976. In 1978, he held a solo exhibition at Galleria Documenta in Turin, showcasing his evolving artistic voice.
In the following years, works such as "Guardando Bellotto," "Aquiloni," and initial studies on "Pic-nic" represented new directions in his research. Fissore moved to London in 1980, attracted by the favorable reviews from English critics and the British government's offer of a studio. In London, he refined the "Pic-nic" series, which garnered positive attention at the "House Gallery" in 1981, receiving acclaim in publications like the "Sunday Times" and "Arts Review."
Returning to Italy, Fissore set up his studio in Turin, where he explored new themes, including "Walls," "Cricket," and early studies on the local hero Santorre di Santa Rosa. Towards the late 1980s, he returned to Savigliano and began his more recognized pictorial cycles, notably "Green" and "Marine," resulting in numerous personal and group exhibitions in various Italian galleries, including Galleria La Bussola and Galleria Biasutti & Biasutti in Turin.
In 1996, Fissore relocated his studio and home to Palazzo, a historic property in the Savigliano countryside that had once belonged to the Counts of Santa Rosa family. Two years later, the city of Savigliano honored him with a retrospective exhibition at the local Civic Museum.
Fissore continued his artistic exploration into the new millennium with series like "Video spenti" and "Grey green." In 2007, he initiated the "Eroica. Eroi Noti e Ignoti" project in Turin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. This theme culminated in 2011 with an exhibition at the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences in Turin and a permanent installation of large photographs at the Nuovo Parco Dora, depicting monuments related to Santorre di Santa Rosa and other heroes of the Risorgimento.
In the years leading up to his death, Fissore revisited and reinterpreted earlier works, offering autobiographical insights into the "Video spenti" and "Pic-nic" cycles. In 2022, the city of Savigliano celebrated Fissore's legacy with a large retrospective at the Muratori Cravetta palace, highlighting his significant contributions to contemporary art.
