Hi there! I’m Martine, an artist based in the heart of Utrecht, where I live and work at Kas&Co on the Veemarkt. This unique and peaceful setting serves as both my home and studio, inspiring much of my creative work. As part of a multigenerational community, I’ve had the opportunity to display my art in our shared greenhouse space upon request, adding a personal touch to this special place.
Art has always been a way for me to connect with the world around me. My journey has been shaped by a deep sensitivity to my environment and emotions, influenced by a challenging upbringing and the complexities of navigating ADHD and a fast-paced, creative mind. Despite these challenges, art has been my constant—a source of focus and meaning.
I studied art in my early twenties, including a year at the School of Art in the United States, where I concentrated on portraits and nature. Life later led me to focus on family and work, but creativity remained a part of me through writing, illustrating, and composing music. Last year, I returned to painting, bringing with me a wealth of experiences and emotions that now find expression on canvas.
I love capturing the essence of cityscapes, especially Utrecht and other places close to my heart. My paintings often depict a mix of iconic landmarks and hidden corners, portraying the vibrancy and uniqueness of urban life. Often, my work also takes on a more figurative style, featuring nature, human figures and animals to explore themes of connection and our relationship with nature.
Painting allows me to translate my inner world into vivid colors, energy, and emotion. Every piece reflects the way I see and experience life. My process often begins with a charcoal sketch, evolving through layers of acrylic and mixed media into something dynamic and unique.
Beyond painting, I also compose music and write stories. Under the name ‘Sofie Weber,’ I create music and illustrations, including the whimsical tales of Sofie & Pawgles. Whether it’s a cityscape, a portrait, or a commissioned piece, my goal is always to create something meaningful and deeply personal.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my work. Together, let’s bring more beauty and creativity into the world.
Warm regards, Martine Weber
