A medium large format mixed media painting on linen canvas. Produced during a
micro-residency at Albion Road Wasps studios in the Autumn of 2021. The work seeks to
enlarge and further explore visual and conceptual ideas developed through drawings
made in Istanbul in the summer of the same year. A colourful organic composition is
created with acrylic and soft pastel with a foreground layer of muddy off white acrylic
and oil. The piece discusses ideas of disillusionment and psychosis but in a way that
takes insanity to be part of chaotic nature itself. The term Ergot refers to a cereal borne
fungus thought responsible for mass psychosis events and the original source for the
synthesis of lysergic acid in the mid 20th century.

Greg Bryce is a contemporary Scottish multidisciplinary artist based in Spain. In late 2017, he made a significant decision to abandon his career as a landscape architect and botanical designer, fully embracing his ion for art. The shift led him to relocate from Edinburgh to Brussels, where he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to the exploration of his visual ideas.

Greg's artistic approach is characterized by a unique perspective on the world. His work is a manifestation of his ability to see the world differently, perceiving rhythm and color in everything. Combining his roles as a percussionist and an artist, Greg posits that all sound and space are inherently composed of rhythms. This viewpoint stems from a lifelong fascination with color, particularly bright hues, which manifested early on, as recounted by his family's recollection of his color-organizing antics in a doctor's office at the age of one.

Within his artistic practice, Greg maintains a base playfulness that seeks to order the world and celebrate color, emphasizing a primal creativity inherent in all individuals. Specializing in abstract painting and drawing, along with environmental site/material-specific installations, his work is a vibrant exploration of form and expression.

Greg's artistic journey has been marked by wide recognition, with exhibitions across Europe and residency periods in Brussels, Belgium, Assisi, Italy, and Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Greg contributes to the art community as a co-op council member of The Society of Scottish Artists. His work draws inspiration from challenging fundamental principles, delving into aspects such as the human senses, self, space, scales, and, of course, rhythm. Greg Bryce's creations invite viewers to reconsider the world through his distinctive lens, where vibrant colors and rhythmic patterns intertwine to offer a fresh and dynamic perspective on fundamental principles.
