A small Acrylic painting on wood, continuing in my 'fracture' series. The painting takes inspiration from the seasons, this time the melancholy of late summer. The yellows have faded, to a mute naples, as have the purples, reminiscent of the rich heather blooms of Aberdeenshire. The work was strongly affected by Rupert Thomson's book 'Never anyone but you'. A deeply emotional biographical novel of two french female artists and their relationship through the 1910s, 20s, the war years and beyond largely on the Island of Jersey. The book traces the bright promise contemporary art and letters held in Europe early in the 20th century and its' slow erosion by conflict.

Greg Bryce is a contemporary Scottish multidisciplinary artist based in Spain. In late 2017, he made a significant decision to abandon his career as a landscape architect and botanical designer, fully embracing his ion for art. The shift led him to relocate from Edinburgh to Brussels, where he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to the exploration of his visual ideas.

Greg's artistic approach is characterized by a unique perspective on the world. His work is a manifestation of his ability to see the world differently, perceiving rhythm and color in everything. Combining his roles as a percussionist and an artist, Greg posits that all sound and space are inherently composed of rhythms. This viewpoint stems from a lifelong fascination with color, particularly bright hues, which manifested early on, as recounted by his family's recollection of his color-organizing antics in a doctor's office at the age of one.

Within his artistic practice, Greg maintains a base playfulness that seeks to order the world and celebrate color, emphasizing a primal creativity inherent in all individuals. Specializing in abstract painting and drawing, along with environmental site/material-specific installations, his work is a vibrant exploration of form and expression.

Greg's artistic journey has been marked by wide recognition, with exhibitions across Europe and residency periods in Brussels, Belgium, Assisi, Italy, and Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Greg contributes to the art community as a co-op council member of The Society of Scottish Artists. His work draws inspiration from challenging fundamental principles, delving into aspects such as the human senses, self, space, scales, and, of course, rhythm. Greg Bryce's creations invite viewers to reconsider the world through his distinctive lens, where vibrant colors and rhythmic patterns intertwine to offer a fresh and dynamic perspective on fundamental principles.
