With his two painter parents (Georges Koutsandréou and Martina Charbonnel) Grégoire Koutsandréou was used to handling colors from a very young age. Having learned the main pictorial techniques with his father Georges Koutsandréou, he very quickly asserted his artistic personality.
Since 2004, he has freely expressed his secret garden where a little elf named Szäp dances in lush vegetation.
In his early days, Grégoire Koutsandréou already presented plants with invented shapes like so many incantations to nature that the city is stealing from him. Insects, frogs and all the animal world were welcome in Szäp's little world.
Grégoire Koutsandréou's painting reflects nostalgia for childhood or rather a return to the origins of the world, far from the attacks of civilization and the violence that shake society. He recharges his batteries in this quest for colors and comforting vegetation.
In 2007, he began by dressing his canvases with a sort of opaque curtain formed by a multitude of identical micro-patterns painted with meticulousness following often linear trajectories. In weightlessness, Szäp plays with perspective between areas covered by cubes combining volume and movement.
From 2008, the concern for the future and time is evident in his painting with his calendars of the future where the dates written are calculated (mentally) to correspond to the days of the week. The little character Szäp settles into timelessness.
Over the years, his painting becomes lighter while gaining precision. Using an ultra-fine sable brush, he endlessly reproduces plants sketched in nature: This requires much greater attention to detail than when he invented patterns.
Linked to the origins of humanity through its primitive aspect, his work integrates fragments of a city seen from above with mazes of streets that he represents with his small cubes.
In its space-time labyrinth, it leaps into eras so distant from us that we can barely imagine what life on earth could be like in these future times.
Since the beginning of 2014 its calendars have been in English. He attaches more and more importance to the shape of his agglomerates of small cubes of color. He begins a series of canvases where on each of them he traces the shape of a country (different from one canvas to another) inside which these cubes symbolize fragments of a city.
Since December 2015 Grégoire Koutsandréou has been chosen by the selection committee of the "eg'Art" association for equal access to art for all which s his artistic approach.
To purchase one of these paintings, the artist.
His maps of non-imaginary countries reflect his ion for geography which he combines with the ing of the years.
