Ines Baumgart (b. 1962, Güstrow) is a contemporary German artist living and working in Leichlingen, Cologne, and Ahrenshoop. Her artistic journey began in her youth, where she explored painting, sketching, and linocut techniques. Over the years, her ion for art evolved into a multidisciplinary practice encoming painting, photography, and sculpture.
Baumgart studied fine art at the fadbk Essen from 2013 to 2019, earning her master student certificate in March 2019. She is a member of the BBK (Federal Association of Visual Artists) in Cologne since 2020 and ed the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA) in 2024.
Her work focuses on forms, spaces, and their interplay. Baumgart transforms everyday materials—whether found, industrially manufactured, used, or new—into sculptural bodies or fragments. She explores the fragmentation of spatial bodies, creating installations that investigate tension, volume, and the dynamic relationship between inner and outer spaces.
With a unique sensitivity to materials and their transformation, Baumgart's practice reflects on the flexibility and changeability of spatial forms. Her pieces embody the process of transformation, imbuing materials with new meaning and exploring the boundaries between surfaces and three-dimensional bodies. Her work invites viewers to engage with the tension and harmony inherent in spatial and physical interactions, capturing the essence of change and the layered narratives within her creations.
