"Green Magic Murmuration" by Jake Michael Singer is an extraordinary sculpture crafted from mild steel, evoking a sense of ethereal beauty and graceful movement. The title hints at the mesmerizing spectacle of murmurations – the synchronized flight patterns of birds – while the vibrant green hue adds an element of enchantment to the piece.

The sculpture consists of meticulously welded pieces of mild steel, delicately intertwined to form a mesmerizing structure reminiscent of wings in motion. Each individual component is seamlessly fused together, resulting in a cohesive and fluid design that appears weightless and airy despite its material composition.

Jake Michael Singer (born 1991, Johannesburg) is acontemporary artist whose practice spans sculpture, photography, and painting. His work delves into themes of materiality, myth, and catharsis, creating a rich tapestry that bridges various mediums and forms.

In recent years, Singer has shifted his focus towards large-scale, site-specific installations. Notable among these are his works in historically significant structures in Istanbul, such as the Yedikule Hisarı during the 17th Istanbul Biennial in 2022 and the Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hamamı in 2021. These installations highlight his ability to merge contemporary art with historical contexts, creating dialogues between past and present.

Singer's solo exhibitions have been widely acclaimed, with shows at Gallery Tiny in New York (2020), THK Gallery in Cape Town (2019), Matter Gallery in Toronto (2018), and Kalashnikovv Gallery in Johannesburg (2018). His work has also been displayed in 50 Golbourne in London (2017), Punt WG in Amsterdam (2017), and Hazard Gallery in Johannesburg (2016).

In addition to his solo endeavors, Singer has participated in significant group exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Zeitz MOCAA, Norval Foundation, Nirox Foundation, Kampala Biennale, Dak'art Biennale, South African National Gallery, and DTIC Dubai. His involvement in the Istanbul Biennale off program is forthcoming.

Singer's academic background includes a degree from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, completed in 2013, and studies at Central Saint Martins in London. He has been recognized for his artistic contributions with the Eduordo Vila Foundation Grant in both 2016 and 2017.

His public art includes permanent sculptures like "Dawn Chorus" (2019) in Johannesburg, "Roark's Evacuation Plan" (2016) in Johannesburg, and "Flume" in Istanbul, which is forthcoming. Singer's commitment to expanding his artistic horizons has led him to complete residencies in Istanbul, Amsterdam, Kampala, and Cologne. He is also a co-founder of the Emergence Art Prize, established in collaboration with THK Gallery and Rand Merchant Bank, to emerging artists in South Africa.
