Jean Messagier (1920-1999) est un artiste historique de la galerie dont l’oeuvre est actuellement en pleine redécouverte. Dès les années 70, Jacques et Catherine Putman - les fondateurs de la galerie- ont ardemment soutenu le travail de Jean Messagier. Personnage haut en couleur, artiste généreux et prolifique, créateur aux multiples facettes, Jean Messagier est un peintre, sculpteur et graveur français. Rattaché à différents mouvements artistiques d’après-guerre, il n’a jamais voulu choisir entre l’abstraction et la figuration. Son œuvre se caractérise avant tout par une extrême exubérance et une grande poésie. Prise dans sa globalité - il était également poète, compositeur, militant et organisateur de fêtes etc. - son œuvre se comprend dans son rapport à la vie et à la nature qu’il cherche à saisir pleinement. Depuis 2018, la galerie travaille activement sur l’oeuvre de Jean Messagier, a organisé trois expositions personnelles de l'artiste dans ses murs et présente ses oeuvres dans les foires. L’intérêt pour cet artiste est croissant de la part des collectionneurs, comme des institutions; des tableaux sont entrés et actuellement présentés dans les collections du Musée d’Art Moderne de la ville de Paris et du Musée national d’art moderne - Centre Pompidou. En 2019, le musée des beaux-arts de Dôle lui a consacré une importante rétrospective accompagnée d’une monographie.
