This table presents a dramatic approach. The composition is dominated by a high contrast between the darkness of the cave and the outside light, which creates a sense of mystery and isolation. The human figure in the centre reinforces this feeling, giving the impression of a search, exploration or introspection.
We can classify this style within the symbolic realism or atmospheric expressionism, since it not only represents a scene, but transmits a deep emotion. The influence of Tenebrism (similar to Caravaggio or some romantic landscape painters like Friedrich) is evident in the dramatic use of light and shadow.
