Ponderosa (2024) 雕塑 由 Luisa Ardila

I present Ponderosa, my ritual candelabrum, as a vessel of ancient care and deliberate intention. I hand-built its stout, four-legged base from dark stoneware, coaxing the clay into a form both robust and subtly irregular. Each vertical bears the marks of my fingers and the kiln’s flame—a textured patina of rusted bronze echoes the heat of devotion. When I place a single taper atop its broad, gently upturned crown, the soft glow dances across those rough edges, illuminating the tension between strength and vulnerability. In Ponderosa, I claim the act of lighting a candle as an act of reverence: every curve, every fissure, affirms that true craftsmanship emerges from the embrace of imperfection.
