The piece was created using a combination of acrylic, gouache, and watercolor. To highlight the shimmering details of the original ceiling, genuine gold leaf was applied to selected areas, adding depth and a sense of authenticity to the work.
The creative process involved detailed research of the palace’s interior, followed by a careful sketching phase to ensure accuracy and symmetry. I aimed to reflect not only the visual beauty of the architectural element but also its cultural and historical significance.
Fun fact: Dolmabahçe Palace was one of the first buildings in the Ottoman Empire to incorporate Western styles into traditional architecture. The Muayede Hall is one of its most magnificent spaces, and its ceiling decorations symbolize the Empire’s openness to blending artistic influences. This piece is a tribute to that unique synthesis.
