🔸The Flooded Ascent is a reflection on the paradox of progress—an ascent that feels more like a descent, where every step toward clarity submerges you deeper into uncertainty.
🔸The figure in the painting climbs a staircase partially swallowed by water, yet the higher they go, the more they seem to drown. The path ahead appears open, offering endless possibilities, but the weight of indecision and fear turns choice into paralysis. The flood is not just external; it is an internal tide of doubt, hesitation, and the overwhelming pressure of expectations.
🔸The hooded figure remains faceless, embodying a universal struggle—anonymity in the face of life’s decisions. The composition plays with light and shadow, motion and stillness, inviting the viewer to question: is the figure ascending toward something greater, or are they being consumed by the very journey meant to elevate them?
🔸Through this work, I explore the emotional weight of uncertainty, the tension between ambition and fear, and the way self-doubt can transform even the most promising path into an insurmountable struggle. Yana Dmitrieva is a contemporary artist exploring emotions, fears, and the human struggle for self-identity and self-expression. She currently lives and works in Herceg Novi, Montenegro.
She graduated from an art college and the Institute of Culture, where she developed a strong foundation in fine arts and design. Currently, Yana is developing a new series that explores the intricate relationship between individuals and their inner contradictions. Actively engaged in the contemporary art scene, she plans to present her work in a solo exhibition, inviting viewers to reflect on the nature of emotions and identity.
