Ana Lima-Netto, a talented artist living and working in Portugal, is strongly influenced by the works of Eva Hesse and Anish Kapoor. She is distinguished by her minimalist and abstract style, exploring various mediums such as wire, metal and aluminum sculpture, as well as graphite drawing on paper and plastic sculpture. Born in Lisbon in 1960, Ana Lima-Netto obtained her degree in architecture in 1985 at the Superior School of Fine Arts in Lisbon. She also benefited from scholarships from the Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC) and the Instituto Camões. Currently, she is an ambassador for the Canson brand in Portugal and teaches at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon, of which she has been a member of the board of directors since 2017.
Between 1995 and 2004, Ana developed her work mainly in the field of painting, participating in numerous individual and group exhibitions both in Portugal and abroad. In 2014, she began to move toward abstraction and experimentation, organizing her work into series of poetic narratives. His works are based on three main variables:
1. The search for the line as a basic unit in the definition of networks, evoking ideas of chaos and continuous movement, and creating parallels with the different visible and invisible, real and virtual universes.
2. Reflection on the process of perception of images and visuals, exploring how we construct our memory through our thoughts, desires and dreams, and questioning the multiplicity of realities that surround us.
3. The notions of sacred and profane, of time and cycle, of transformation and ephemerality, present in individual and cosmological history, inviting reflection on the balance between the visible, the material, and the spirit or the essence of things.
Ana uses various materials according to the objectives of each series, with a predilection for polymers, acrylic glass, networks and metal wools, materials evoking lightness, transparency and shine. Its exhibitions aim to seduce and question the observer, thanks to particular attention paid to the construction of images. With each presentation of her works, Ana Lima-Netto manages to attract attention and provoke reflection, thus offering an enriching and introspective artistic experience.
