Jean Pierre Avonts-Saint-Lager has been ionate about fabrics from a very young age.
He is graduated from the Anya Brown School of Fashion Design from Leeds, (England)
Back in Lyon he started to create theater clothes and costumes.
Then, in Paris, he became the leather stylist of the "Guy Dray" shops before opening his own shop on Place Saint-Michel.
In 1997 he started creating sets and costumes the theater company "Maquis’Arts Théâtre".
In 2005 his first Textile Works were exhibited at the "Carré maison" gallery.
His work held the attention of Naomi Ichikawa, editor-in-chief of the Japanese magazine "Patchwork Quilt Tsushin" and she wrote a long article to him in issue 139 of August 2007.
Since Jean Pierre Avonts-Saint-Lager has participated in more than forty international Textile Art exhibitions, in , Europe and the United States.
Though he uses different materials, fabrics remains the essential element of his compositions.
He explores its textures, colors, transparencies and infinite richness, as others use paint, wood or stone to bring their inner world to life.
He draws his inspiration from the universal and timeless human mysteries such as pleasure, loneliness, death and the flight of time.
