Brigitte Dravet is a contemporary award-winning French artist. Dravet breathes her creative energy into her paintings, they emerge from her inner world, their geography revealing itself layer after layer. Made without brushes, but with knives, scrapers and mason's tools, her works are rich in textures made of successive layers of paint, cracks, with effects of rust. She likes to contrast these mineral, rough, worn and damaged textures with metallic colors, gold, copper, bronze, symbols of delicacy, light, purity, and serenity. Her paintings are halfway between the mysticism of the icon, the decoration and the landscape and its natural colors. They catch us in their light, surprise us by their texture and invite us to contemplation, and meditation.
Inspired by the artistic sensibility of a Duchamp and Ready-Made era, she finds mannequins or pieces of mannequins in garage sales or trash and gives them a new life, a second chance. Each mannequin is decorated like a canvas, using patinas, rust, paint drips, gilding, gold leaf collages, and jewels to create unique pieces like lamps, tables, or antique sculptures that appear to have been carved in stone or cast in bronze.
