Zoals Dostojevski schreef in Misdaad en straf: ‘Alles hangt af van de omgeving waarin de mens leeft: het is de omgeving die alles bepaalt, en de mens is niets.’
In onze oververzadigde visuele wereld ervaren we vaak deze leegte. Maar met het juiste licht transformeert een figuur of landschap, en vindt het binnen enkele seconden zijn betekenis.
Al meer dan 19 jaar onderzoek ik deze transformatie. Ik vorm mensen met licht en leg vast hoe ze in elke hoek veranderen door natuurlijk licht, kunstmatige systemen en UV. Zichtbare en onzichtbare spectra, machines die licht registreren: dit zijn mijn hulpmiddelen om een nieuwe geest te onthullen die verder gaat dan kleur, textuur en vorm.
Ik maak niet zomaar portretten. Ik breng mijn eigen ziel erin over. In elke sessie botst de identiteit van het onderwerp met mijn visie. Het proces is vloeiend, onvoorspelbaar, levend. Wat ontstaat zijn foto's die niet alleen beelden zijn, maar emoties - verheven tot een esthetische ervaring door de verleiding van poëzie.
Fotografie is al meer dan 19 jaar mijn fulltime bezigheid. Ik begon als kunstjournalist, ontdekte onderweg fotografie en opende in 2005 mijn eerste studio in Istanbul. Sindsdien heb ik met internationale en binnenlandse merken gewerkt, heb ik in heel Europa geëxposeerd en heb ik meer dan 5.000 fotografen begeleid.
In 2018 benoemde Sony Europe mij tot Imaging Ambassador. Het is 2025, elk jaar sindsdien hebben ze deze erkenning vernieuwd. Maar titels definiëren mij niet. Wat mij definieert is de meedogenloze zoektocht naar licht, het ongeziene en het vluchtige moment waarop alles op één lijn ligt.
