With this work, Philippe Fares addresses an important phase in the construction of large-scale buildings: deep foundations.

The sculpture evokes a section of dip tube used to concrete a pile at depth, from good soil, to the edge of the future paving of the building.

The surface appearance as well as the earthy color of DEEP FOUNDATION 1/6 correspond to the reality on the ground. Clay slurry, concrete and sludge mix in excess on the surface of the dip tube, coming out of the ground, during the concreting of the piles.

The surface treatment by oxidation gives the whole thing a rusty appearance, suggesting bad weather and the mechanical stresses experienced by the drilling equipment on the sites.

Unlike most of Philippe Fares' sculptures, the work is presented without backlighting, in a plastic nudity, which illustrates one of the formidable patents of special foundations.
The artist declined his creation, in different formats, with varied surface renderings, while applying a similar, complex methodology. The six tubes that make up this set differ from each other by their height, their diameter and their color, which is unique because it depends on the chemical oxidation reaction mentioned above.

With FONDATION PROFONDE 1/6, Philippe Fares gives us a raw work, which reconnects with the major projects of his former life.

Philippe Fares is a contemporary French artist, whose journey has been profoundly shaped by diverse cultures and the interplay of art and science. His unique perspective, honed by a childhood spent in sub-Saharan Africa, is a testament to his early exposure to the world of art, particularly the influence of Primitive Arts. Returning to at the age of 16, Philippe embarked on a path that allowed him to cultivate his understanding of Western Arts while pursuing scientific studies.

Philippe Fares' artistic works are meticulously constructed using scientific methods and meticulous planning. His creations often feature a recurring tiling pattern, a meticulously balanced interplay with chance. This synthesis of meticulous design and the unpredictability of chance lends his works a dynamic and intriguing quality.

One of the defining features of Philippe's sculptures is his incorporation of light, whether through LED or Halogen sources. This infusion of light imbues each piece with a unique chromatic field, magnifying the contrast of the leading lines within the sculpture. Philippe understands that, in his art, what truly matters is the relationship between colors, dimensions, and positions. He views the proportion between the horizontal, the vertical, and the depth as a reflection of the three dimensions that envelop us, as well as the opposing forces that often govern life and space—the interplay between existence and non-existence, abundance and scarcity.
