Colour photograph of the Himalayan mountain range showing the mountains Makalu, Lhotse, Everest (main mountain right of frame) and Cho Oyu during high wind. Cloud that has formed around Mount Everest is blowing off the summit, extending across the mountain range. The upper sections and summits of all mountains are covered in snow. In the foreground are foothills leading to the mountains. A cloudless sky is overhead.

The photograph was taken from Kyawula La , Tibet, in spring 2005 during a three-month journey through Asia.

This image shows the northern face of Mount Everest on the Tibet side. It was from the Rongbuk Valley that the ill-fated 1924 British expedition involving George Mallory and Andrew "Sandy" Irvine was undertaken.

The first successful summit climb of Mount Everest in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay was undertaken from the other, or Nepal side, of the mountain.

High resolution digital file.

Camera: Leica M8.2 (digital).

Lens: Leica ELMARIT-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH.

Scott Gregory Banner is a well-established photographer. He believes that photography is an important medium because it captures subjective moments in time. He believes that black and white and colour photography each have distinct aesthetic qualities. In black and white photography, the tonal range provides depth that can realise ‘more’ in an image. An example of this is the role that shadow plays in an image by 'creating' what appears to be a third dimension. Also, because black and white represents the period before colour, black and white photographs have timeless qualities that provide direct visual links to times past. In colour photography, the colour elements can realise distinct vibrancy and richness in an image. It is these distinct aesthetic qualities in black and white and colour photographs that he loves to capture.

Scott has traveled extensively, often to remote locations. This has been crucial for him gaining a better understanding of the physical landscape, cultures, and people of the world. Photography has played an important role in this investigation.

Scott has exhibited his work and his photographs have featured in journal publications in Australia and America and on Australian National television. He is also a contributor to the collections of the State Library of New South Wales.

Scott Gregory Banner was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and currently resides there.
