‚Vorangehende Frau VI‘.

Silvia Szlapka is a contemporary German artist whose artistic journey began alongside her graphic design studies, which she completed with a diploma in 2006. Since 1996, she has been working in her studio in Bochum-Linden. In 2012, she became a member of the Bochum Artists' Association.

Szlapka's painting style evolved significantly at the end of 2000, as she sought to introduce more abstraction into her work. Her technique involves breaking down photographic snapshots of urban scenes into rectangles or mosaics, creating a fusion of people with their surroundings. Her paintings are characterized by intense colors, unusual perspectives, and vibrant, light-filled depictions of everyday life.

In addition to her painting, Szlapka has been working with paper since 2005, creating both delicate and larger figures. Her sculptural works often begin with the material itself, leading to conceptual pieces such as "Covid is art," "Advancing women" (part of the project "Cotton Candy for the Patriarchy"), and the spatial installation "Skin and Shell," all developed since 2020.

Looking ahead to 2024, Szlapka is set to launch a new project titled "Skin," where she will create abstract objects with a focus on surface structure, continuing her exploration of form and material.
