Looking for inspiration is rarely successful; it appears, and sometimes in the most unlikely places. This sculpture did originate from these beginnings but transformed in realisation.
It is not pegged to any particular association. The onlooker will add their own responses and the more time spent in front of the sculpture is rewarded by myriad possibilities and interpretations.
One of the pleasures of small sculpture is that it can easily be moved around, to refresh both the perception of the viewer and the surroundings it occupies.
Cast in solid bronze it rotates on an eroded granite pebble sitting on a Herefordshire burr oak base. The bronze part of the sculpture is both penetrated and highly textured; finished in a vibrant blue, removed to expose natural bronze on some edges.

Philip Hearsey is a contemporary British sculptor. Hearsey is driven by an instinctive impulse to advance at his own pace and focus on building things, rather than engaging in certain theories. He uses his expertise in sandcasting to create sculptures that engage the quality of bronze as a noble material in and of itself, transforming observations and visualizations into three-dimensional realities. Hearsey's work is distinguished by its brilliant simplicity, fascinating designs, and tactile feel.

Philip Hearsey was born in 1946, in the UK. His sculptures are held in private and corporate collections across the globe.

The Artist was highlighted in an article in ArtMajeur Magazine:
